Vision and Mission

The Markham Group of Artists was founded in 1981 to facilitate and promote visual arts in the Markham Area.

Founded by Pat Wheeler in 1981 and incorporated on April 16th 2012, the MGA includes artists from beginners to professionals working in a variety of media and styles.

Our Purpose To inspire and support the growth of creativity in its members.

Our Vision To maintain a vibrant community of artists, creating, learning and growing together; enriching the community we live in.

Our Mission To provide opportunities for MGA Members to improve their artistic talent by:

• Providing skill-building workshops, art demonstrations, and tutorials.
• Providing opportunities for exposure of Member’s artwork through shows, digital media, and public art.
• Providing spaces for artists to collaborate and learn from one another.
• Fostering partnerships with other community groups aligned with our vision.
• Recognizing and encouraging excellence in visual art through the granting of awards and distinctions.

Show Sitting Policy

Members submitting artwork to gallery shows are required to schedule a show sitting time. The show team is not responsible for finding replacement sitters if the member chooses not to sit the show. Failure to sit a show can result in being barred from future shows. If you have an emergency please speak to the show director.

Zero Tolerance Policy

The Markham Group of Artists is committed to supporting a culture of respect and well-being for our Members by ensuring they have a safe and respectful environment.

To foster this, MGA has zero tolerance for abusive behaviour towards our members.

Abusive behaviour can be in any form (in writing, on the phone, in-person, etc.) and may include:

• Personal attacks or rude and disparaging remarks regarding MGA members
• Use of obscenities, profanities, degrading comments, insults, vulgar or sexist language, humiliating remarks or racial/religious slurs
